Best material on MDX scripts?

Hi,

I am looking for some good and elaborate material on MDX scripts. I have read "MDX Scripting Fundamentals" at MSDN, but this material seems kind of basic:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms145973(en-US,SQL.90).aspx

Does anyone have a good reference?

There aren't any yet, I'm afraid. I've just finished writing the chapter on MDX Scripting for the second edition of 'MDX Solutions' (see http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0471748080/qid=1130331934/sr=8-4/ref=pd_bbs_4/102-8919619-9916967?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 ) and had to go direct to the dev team to ask my questions.

There are some examples of more complex MDX Scripts on Mosha's blog (http://www.sqljunkies.com/WebLog/mosha/default.aspx), Richard Tkachuk's site (http://www.sqlserveranalysisservices.com although it seems to be down at the time of writing) and my blog (http://spaces.msn.com/members/cwebbbi/).

Seems odd that MS has not produced more elaborate documentation on these new features. Looking forward to the book you are co-authoring, though... Smile Also good to see that the author of the previous "MDX Solutions" is in on it.

Beginning MDX

I'm pretty new at Mdx , so bare with me. I want to make a calculated member called Occupant Fatalities.

The occupant fatalities looks like this right now:

( [Measures].[Fatalities] , [Crash Person].[Person Type].&[Driver])

Now the question is , How do i add another person type to this calculated member. It wont work when i do this.

( [Measures].[Fatalities] , [Crash Person].[Person Type].&[Driver].&[Passenger])

whats the code for having more then one member from a hierachy? or having 2 members from different hierarchies?

any help is appreciated.

Well, one of my co-workers helped with this one. It was right there, and i didnt even know.

I guess you have to put each individual attribute with the measure. Looks like this.

([Crash Person].[Person Type].&[Driver], [Measures].[Fatalities])

+ ([Crash Person].[Person Type].&[Passenger],[Measures].[Fatalities] )
