Best material on MDX scripts?

Hi,

I am looking for some good and elaborate material on MDX scripts. I have read "MDX Scripting Fundamentals" at MSDN, but this material seems kind of basic:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms145973(en-US,SQL.90).aspx

Does anyone have a good reference?

/Michael Idea

There aren't any yet, I'm afraid. I've just finished writing the chapter on MDX Scripting for the second edition of 'MDX Solutions' (see http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0471748080/qid=1130331934/sr=8-4/ref=pd_bbs_4/102-8919619-9916967?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 ) and had to go direct to the dev team to ask my questions.

There are some examples of more complex MDX Scripts on Mosha's blog (http://www.sqljunkies.com/WebLog/mosha/default.aspx), Richard Tkachuk's site (http://www.sqlserveranalysisservices.com although it seems to be down at the time of writing) and my blog (http://spaces.msn.com/members/cwebbbi/).

HTH

Seems odd that MS has not produced more elaborate documentation on these new features. Looking forward to the book you are co-authoring, though... Smile Also good to see that the author of the previous "MDX Solutions" is in on it.

best install scenario

In the current MSDN Universal disk set, there is a disk for Visual Studio
2005 (beta2) and a disk for SQL Server 2005. If you install VS2005 you get
the April CTP SQL server but without Server Management Studio. If you
install SQL Server 2005, you get VS2005 but without the normal code
development templates. What's the recommended install sequence to get both?
And after several install/uninstall sequences I seem to have lost start menu
links to VS.Net 2003. Can I have VS.Net 2003 and VS.Net 2005 on the same
machine?
tks
RonHi Ron,
Since SQL Server 2005 has not been public released yet, we will redirect

Becoming an mvp

I was reading about how people become MVP's and it states participate in the MSDN forums, is this true ?

EDIT: Why did you lock this thread, it is specific to becoming an MVP in reporting services. Kind of ignorant on your part.

This isn't the right place to ask those kind of questions as we try to keep it to software development discussion only. You should have a look at this site

Thanks for the unlock, looks like its more than just answering questions

on this forum.

I hope you understand that your question does not really fall under the topic SQL Server Reporting Services development discussion, these are MSDN forums after all. Your question is answered on the MVP support site.

http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/mvpfaqs

Q1: What is the Microsoft MVP award?

A1: The Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Award is an annual award that is given to outstanding members of Microsoft's peer-to-peer communities, and is based on the past year's contributions those members make in those communities online and offline.

I understand but it had to do with reporting services and becoming an MVP in that.

I would also like to point out that it is not just simply a matter of simply sitting on a forum answering all the questions you can - you also have to be nominated either by other MVPs, or by other people who are recognised as being competent in the subject area, and you also normally have to present at user group meetings, etc.
